We are ecstatic to share with you that over the course of the last month, the MDHA Flex Fund got a real shot in the arm from our partners in the private funder community. The idea of the Flex Fund is simple. A minor but impactful expenditure impedes a client from (making progress in) ending his or her homelessness. The Flex Fund pays for it. That’s all there is to it.
The Bank of America Charitable Foundation contributed $10,000, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas , who co-founded the fund with us, contributed $20,000, and (drum roll) the King Foundation contributed $55,000, making them, cumulatively, the largest contributor to the Flex Fund to date.
The private funder community is vital to the existence of the Flex Fund, since most federal, state and local government grants, that fund programs for the homeless, do not cover these types of expenses. Check out an example of the cool stuff the Flex Fund allows us to do, in our blog post: Tom Fought for Our Home, Now He Has One Too.
We are also tremendously grateful to the Harold Simmons Foundation for granting MDHA $25,000 for the general operations of our homeless response system. Face it; you all rock!
