Thank You to Our August Supporters!

Thank you so much to all of our August supporters! We are particularly thankful to the USAA Foundation, who awarded us funding to shore up our general operations during the COVID-19 crisis! USAA did one of those things you learn about in grant writing courses, but seldom see “in the wild”. They think what we are doing is so important that they awarded us more money than we asked for. (We’re not telling you how much, because USAA prefer not to talk about amounts.)

Now, the true mark of your work being recognized as important is when you get a grant “out of the blue”, without even directly asking for it. Our friends at the Northway Christian Church have volunteered for the annual homeless count and have quietly followed our work. In light of recent events, they decided to make grants to a select few organizations in the community, and we were one of them. In August, they sent us a $20,000 check. Thank you so much!

These grants will be tremendously helpful as we ramp up our efforts to house as many of our homeless friends as we can over the course of the second half of 2020. This is a once in a generation challenge. Not only must MDHA and its partners beat back a rise in homelessness; we must continue the trend, set in the past year, of reducing homelessness in Dallas and Collin Counties.
