Wow. We’re kind of overwhelmed, and still a little tired, but most of all we’re thankful and humbled and happy to have conducted such a successful homeless count, once again.
Since radically changing the way we count the homeless in 2016, every year we have made our count more accurate, by replacing paper surveys with an app, by recruiting more volunteers, by breaking down the huge area we must cover more scientifically, and by covering more areas of Dallas and Collin Counties.
Cristal Retana and Erik Moss, of the Mayor’s Star Council, with two of Dallas’ finest, preparing to deploy from
First United Methodist Church Dallas.
Thank you to all our partners who made this possible, especially, First United Methodist Church Dallas, Wilshire Baptist Church, the Dallas Police Department, Faith Forward Dallas at Thanksgiving Square, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, the City of Dallas Office of Homeless Solutions, the Collin County Homeless Coalition, and all city, county and nonprofit organization employees, throughout our two counties.
Tracy Eubanks, of Metrocrest Services, training volunteers to count our homeless friends in Addison, Carrollton, Coppell and Farmers Branch, for the first time this year.
Last night, we had more cities participate in our count than ever before in Dallas history. We could not have done this without the city governments, civic groups and nonprofits, large and small, who stepped up to the plate, and stated in word, but more importantly in deed, that in Dallas, everybody counts.
Most importantly, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, to each and every one of our volunteers. Next week, we will discuss our next steps, in the fight to end homelessness, now that the Count is behind us. We hope everyone will join us for the 2020 Homeless Count. #dallascounts2020
