September is here, the kids are back to school, and life is back to normal. Now, you may think that during the summer MDHA slowed down, and took a little rest. Nope. Not MDHA. We remained quite busy! Here are just a few of things we have been working on this summer:
- The FY2018 Continuum of Care Program Competition, that funds so much of the work of our grantees in ending homelessness;
- Lending support to our partner and CoC Member, the City of Dallas’ Office of Homeless Solutions, as they begin to implement their plans to shelter and house more of our homeless friends;
- Improving (and if you are in the “trenches”, that word packs a lot into it), and growing the coverage of the Homeless Management Information System;
- Continuing the search for our next President and CEO;
- Facilitating our regularly scheduled trainings and meetings, like the Case Managers Roundtable and all of our CoC Committee meetings, as well as special trainings, like the one we had this week in Collin County, courtesy of Erin Wixsten, of OrgCode Consulting;
Erin Wixsten, OrgCode Consulting - Publishing a new simplified Homeless Response System Community Dashboard;
- Expanding the reach of the MDHA Flex Fund, so we can help even more of our homeless friends, pay for minor but impactful expenditures that can help them end their homelessness;
- Continuing to work on the problem inherent in that one simple truth, that particularly in Dallas, homelessness and race are inextricably linked, and that we must do something about this;
- Preparing for important future events, this month and in the coming months, including North Texas Giving Day, the Case Manager of the Year Award Luncheon, Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, and future installments of our Hard Conversations series.
