In a recent Forbes essay, Rachel Cook argues that, “We’re reaching a pivotal moment in history at which businesses need to incorporate social good in order to stay competitive.” Forward thinking corporations can no longer limit this to “measures… not necessarily integral to an entity’s profit-engine… which inherently hobbles their prosocial intentions.” Instead they must embrace a “more functional and effective model… that builds social good directly into business models… Businesses mindfully addressing this, have created a wholly new system: the win-win-win. Everyone in the value chain benefits financially…”

I doubt Cook is, specifically, familiar with MDHA’s Housing Resource Team, but she seems to be describing their philosophy to a t! Through our Landlord Incentive Program, MDHA helps property owners reach that win trifecta. This might just be why team members, James McClinton and Cynthia Scaife, continue to identify and engage more potential program participants every week. After all, as we emphasized, on March 1, 2018, when MDHA held its first annual Landlord Appreciation Luncheon, at the Las Colinas Country Club, in Irving, Texas, “Both landlords and MDHA want basically the same four things: Rent paid on time, a long uneventful lease, no police calls, and a well-maintained property.”
By working with MDHA and its partners, in general, landlords can secure a guaranteed monthly cash flow, access to emergency contacts, and renters who are well-assisted by case managers. More specifically, MDHA can help renters access emergency rental assistance, provide risk mitigation coverage, as well as unit holding fees, and rental deposit assistance. Landlords also can rest well knowing that MDHA and its partners have access to tools that can help with seemingly peripheral issues, that can still impact the landlord-renter relationship, such as assistance with utilities, furniture, job training, finding employment and more.
Key to the success of the program are our Standards of Care, which are designed to ensure that participating agencies collaborate with landlords, to effect a smooth and effective partnership between agencies and their case managers, landlords and renters.
We stand at the ready to help any and all who wish to take advantage of this demand, and help the most vulnerable citizens in our community in the process. Are you a landlord who would like to join the program? Don’t wait; contact our Housing Resources Team today!
