As we posted on this blog in Mid-August, MDHA and Faith Forward Dallas (FFD@TGS) are encouraging members of the clergy to use their sermons during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, November 10-18, 2018, to educate their congregations on how they can help end homelessness.Hopefully, if you are a member of the clergy, you have already set a date, and have some ideas about what you will preach about. If not, no worries, there is more than enough time. (If you are not a member of the clergy, why not suggest to your clergy that they join this preaching effort?)
Here are some good next steps for clergy who wish to join this effort:
- Solidify a specific date that you will be preaching on homelessness;
- Begin to publicize the fact that you will be preaching on homelessness, as part of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, November 10-18, 2018;
- Think about how you can leverage your sermon, to garner support for taking steps that can really help end homelessness. For ideas, check out MDHA and FFD@TGS’s shared homelessness initiative;
- Begin to think about content and ideas for your sermon. In that original blog post, we provided an example of what such preaching might look like. Here it is again, with additional resources from our old blog:
