CARES Act ESG Funding to Fight Homelessness

One of the main vehicles through which the Federal Government hopes to stave off a rise in homelessness due to the pandemic, is the Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) program. To wit, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020 includes an allocation of ESG funds, which nationally equals about 16-17 times the regular annual allocation!

MDHA, namely our crack Continuum of Care (CoC) team, headed by Shavon Moore, our VP of Programs, is hard at work facilitating the first distribution of funds allocated to Dallas and Collin Counties, under the (Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs) TDHCA umbrella, with a second distribution of funds, just around the corner.

These state ESG funds, along with ESG funds awarded through local governments, will be key in ending the homelessness of many of our homeless friends throughout Dallas and Collin Counties, as well as preventing others from joining their ranks. You can learn more about this process by visiting our TDHCA ESG CARES Act Funding page.
