On Thursday, February 18, 2021, we held our first ever homeless count kickoff. It opened with a short address from the Honorable Eric Johnson, Mayor of the City of Dallas, who was introduced by the Honorable Casey Thomas, II, Dallas City Council Member District 3, who serves as the chair of the council’s Housing and Homelessness Solutions Committee, as well as co-chair of the Dallas Area Partnership to End and Prevent Homelessness.
The event included an invocation from Reverend Todd Atkins, of the Salem Institutional Baptist Church, and words from Ashley Brundage, the Dallas and Collin Counties’ Homeless Collaborative Board Chair and Peter Brodsky, MDHA Board Chair.
The breakout stars of the kickoff were Daneille Tooker, of CitySquare, and Jessica Libby, of the City of Plano. The centerpiece of the event was a short documentary piece, shot and produced by our good friend, C.J. Capes, showcasing these two street outreach workers and their preparations for the count. Thank you to all of you, as well as to our wonderful sponsors!
