Austin Street Center for Community Engagement

June 16, 2022 was a special day for Austin Street Center. The organization celebrated the completion of a beautiful new facility, which will have the capacity to serve 351 of our unhoused neighbors.

Joli Angel Robinson, President and CEO of the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance, had the privilege of helping the organization celebrate. “The new, updated facilities at Austin Street Center will provide necessary respite to our most vulnerable neighbors,” she said. “I am grateful for Austin Street’s almost 40-year legacy of service and grateful to have them as a partner in this work to transform the lives of our most vulnerable citizens. Congratulations to Austin Street Center on this achievement.”

The new facility boasts an expanded medical respite program. Previously nine men’s beds were available; the new facility has eighteen for men and nine for women. The facility features classroom space where the organization will offer a variety of classes, as well as a clinical meeting space to accommodate community partners, offering mental and physical health services.

Dallas Mayor, Hon. Eric Johnson, emphasized this aspect of partnership, so key to ending homelessness in our community: “Austin Street Center has been a critical community partner in Dallas for nearly four decades, providing basic needs for people in crisis. In our city’s battle to end homelessness, I am proud and grateful to have Austin Street Center as an ally.”

The organization officially moved into the space and began welcoming our neighbors on June 21, 2022. This project represents a $15 million investment from private donors, a point Daniel Roby, Austin Street Center CEO, emphasized, “I am in awe of this community’s continued outpouring of support to help us reach this extraordinary milestone.”
