Why Should I Give to MDHA This North Texas Giving Tuesday Now?

You may be wondering: Why should I give to the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance (MDHA) during the North Texas Giving Tuesday Now campaign on May 5, 2020? Let’s break it down:

Q: What does COVID-19 have to do with ending homelessness?

A: Dallas’ homeless response system, led by MDHA, is reeling, and a tsunami of need may be just around the corner. Before COVID-19 we could imagine that the plight of our homeless brothers and sisters wouldn’t affect any of us, directly. With COVID-19, it is. Keeping our homeless brothers and sisters in shelters and on the streets, unable to practice social distancing, puts us all at risk. COVID-19 is showing us that a home is more than four walls and a roof; a home is healthcare, public safety, family, community. We must act now to make this a reality for everyone, and end homelessness in this, our home, Dallas and Collin Counties.Q: Of all the organizations fighting to end homelessness, why should I give, specifically, to MDHA?

A: Research shows that the only way to make real progress is through collective impact, many organizations working together to achieve a common goal, like ending homelessness. Research further shows that you need a strong backbone organization, like MDHA, to lead the collective impact, in order for it to work.

Q: I thought you are funded by the government, so why are you asking me to donate?

A: Here is how our funding works: We must show that for every $3 the government gives us, we have raised $1. If we can’t we, literally, have to give the money back. That is why your donations are so critical to our work. Every dollar you give powers $3 more dollars of funding.
