Bonus Funds

If our community in Dallas and Collin Counties took the right steps, the Federal Continuum of Care Program Competition funding could grow year after year.

The homeless rehousing system receives most of its funding based on the cost of already existing programs. However, there is an opportunity to get “bonus funds” for new programs every year above the amount available for renewal of existing programs.

To earn these funds, communities compete against each other, and the highest performing communities receive the funds. Once these funds are captured, they become part of the renewal funds for the year after that. The communities that win these funds consistently can gradually grow the amount of funds they receive.

With over $1.6 million in potential bonus funds this past year, imagine what winning these funds could do for Dallas and Collin Counties’ system that currently receives about $19 million annually. This is one of many reasons why MDHA and the Homeless Collaborative invest so much time and effort in improving performance in our homeless rehousing system.
